AMA Recap — OMNIA Protocol
Yesterday, 2nd March 2022, we organized an AMA session with Santi Lopez & Lauri.
Below is the AMA transcript:
Lauri:
Both of you had the same carreer path in the crypto industry?
Cristian:
Yes, so me and Alex have 90% the same carreer path. The only difference is that I followed the research path while doing my PhD. in cryptography whereas Alex concentrated more into the management, marketing but I will let him say a few words about this as well.
Alex:
First of all, I am very happy to be here.
Indeed, there are some small differences as I focused more on the business and marketing side of things.
Lauri:
But also the focus from you was on cryptography, right?
Alex:
Yes, we share the same technical background on cryptography and also on blockchain. Actually I have a pending patent for a solution of identity validation using blockchain technology while preserving the privacy.
Lauri:
Maybe it’s a good point now to talk about your project’s niche ? Since it’s indeed related to your carreer path.
Cristian:
Yes, so our niche in the crypto space is around the decentralization and privacy, because this is what we saw that is missing right now. This means that we decentralize the access points to the blockchain but also achieve off-chain privacy.
Everyone knows that blockchain is supposed to be decentralized but we forget that access points are also part of the blockchain, and our plan is to also decentralize these access points.
In regard with the privacy we need to have an end-to-end approach, not only on-chain privacy solutions such as Monero, ZCash, Tornado Cash etc.We also need privacy to protect your IP address, your metadata and personal information outside of the chain.
This is basically the niche where our project fits.
Lauri:
How does your nodes solve this?
Alex:
So, in a few words, to be very easy to understand — we create the incentives for the community to spin up nodes on their own. So basically if you are already running a node at your home you can couple it to OMNIA ecosystem and earn rewards for it. Basically your rewards will grow, the community pool of it resources will also grow and this resource pool serves the applications, so it’s a win-win-win for everyone this is our approach with the decentralization.
Lauri:
Okay, so how is it different in simple words?
Alex:
In simple words the TOR technology is deprecated as ~25% of the nodes are compromised and you can already deanonymize users that are using it. The better technology to achieve privacy is mixnets and there are a few players that they’re trying to build it. Actually one of them is funded by European Commission so we are talking about compliant privacy and not privacy that is used in some illicit way. We plan to bootstrap this technology to achieve a faster time to market and differentiate ourselves from the classical RPC providers.
Lauri:
How Omnia requests becomes untraceable?
Alex:
Okay, so basically here in the left side of the graph we have the users which are broadcasting transactions, it can also be an application, a wallet or a decentralized exchange. Instead of directly sending the transaction to a node which is part of the blockchain network, it first goes to this mixnet which is basically a network of relay software components that mix and shuffle all the information across different layers such that the final destination cannot see the IP address, the behavior of the user or his personal data. Geolocation can also be extracted from IP address. Therefore this middlelayer protects the privacy before the transaction reaches a node, which is the access point into the blockchain.
